Charitable casino approved in New Hampshire

A new charitable casino will open in Salem, New Hampshire sometime next year following approval by Salem’s planning board.
The new casino passed by a five-to-two vote earlier this week. Officials approved The Mall at Rockingham Park to convert an old Lord and Taylor store to The Live! Casino. It’s estimated that construction of the new casino will cost $160 million and will begin early in 2025.
The casino will occupy three stories in the mall and will include 900 historic racing machines and approximately 40 tables games. The venue will also include a movie theatre, sports lounge, golf simulator, retail stores, restaurants, bars, and areas for live entertainment. There’s also potential to add a hotel to the complex in the future.
Based on projections the casino will generate $31 million in revenue per year for the state and approved charities and create more than 700 permanent jobs.
While the charitable casino in Salem has just received approval another charitable casino is expected to open in the state before the end of the month. The Nash Casino will open in Nashua in a former Sears store in Pheasant Lane Mall.
The casino will be 180,000 square feet and include more than 1,000 historic racing machines and dozens of table games. It will reportedly generate $24 million annually for the state and local charities.
Under New Hampshire gambling laws funds from licensed casinos must benefit local charities. Betting limits at all casinos are regulated by the state and casinos must allocate at least 35 percent of table game revenue to charities and another 10 percent to the state.
Historic racing machines, which are legal in New Hampshire and five other states, pay a smaller percentage of revenues to charities and the state.
